I'm a professional designer, a mom of two, an organizer since birth - and the founder of San Francisco based Fernway & Avalon - an interior design and organization studio devoted JUST to spaces for children.
My approach to design helps you manage the organizational chaos that comes with having kids in your home, while making your home beautiful, modern, fun, and functional, and making sure you feel good about the impact your home has on people and the planet. And most of all, making spaces that kids love to spend time in - as well as their grown ups!
What’s in a name? I knew you’d ask. Fernway and Avalon are the cross streets I grew up at. Your childhood home has the opportunity to be a special place full of memories - I hope you agree.
I am a licensed Architect and a LEED Accredited Professional. I have over 20 years of professional experience in both the architecture and interior design industries with experience ranging from educational and corporate interiors to luxury residences.
Life took a turn in 2020 when I was one of the many women who left the workforce to stay home with their children during the pandemic.
Through managing zoom Kindergarten for my daughter to having a second child during 2020 lockdowns - I, like many others, spent more time in my home than I ever had. It completely transformed my perception of living spaces that are harmonious for both kid and their grownups.
As someone who had spent my entire professional career designing beautiful and functional interiors - but with my own kids in daycare all day - I had no idea how children who are home all day use spaces! Actually having to be in my home with my children ALL. THE. TIME. I had lots of time to learn from my kids and from the experiences others shared during that time. It's given me great perspective to better design spaces for how YOUR family lives in them - which is not the same for any two families.
While I took on some part time freelance work from 2020-2024, most of my time was spent as a stay at home mom to my kids. My passion to go back to the career I had before was gone. With my littlest one ready to go off to school it was time to get back to work, on something I had become extremely passionate about - residential spaces for kids and their grownups. Both beautiful and organized spaces, designed for the way you live!
When I'm not wrangling my own kids you can find me helping at my daughter's public elementary school or leading Girl Scout activities for girls in grades K-5 throughout San Francisco. Our family also makes sure to enjoy all that living in San Francisco has to offer - usually via our cargo bike!
